Accreditation

SHSU-COM received full accreditation status from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) in April of 2024. SHSU-COM was awarded 'Accreditation with Exceptional Outcome' which provides 10 years of accreditation and is the highest status that can be achieved.  For more information on COCA accreditation or to file a complaint with the accrediting body, please visit

SHSU-COM’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program was reviewed and approved by the following entities:

  • The Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) – the AOA’s accreditation body as codified in 34 CFR §602, ensuring that all COMs have met or exceed the Commission’s Standards for educational quality;
  • The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) – the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states; and
  • The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board – a Texas agency that oversees all public post-secondary education in the state.
