RECURRING EVENTS

The College of Criminal Justice provides a series of ongoing events to enhance learning opportunities for students and professionals in the criminal justice field. These programs frequently provide real-life applications for academic theories, as well as opportunities to network with others working in law enforcement, corrections, forensic science, victim services, security studies, and academia. Here is a list of recurring lecture series, trainings, and events at the Criminal Justice Center.

  • Real Talk w/CJ provides opportunities for students to learn about diverse careers available in criminal justice and to get tips on how to get jobs.
  • CJ Summer Camp presents opportunities for high school students between 15-17 years of age to explore different career opportunities available in the criminal justice field as well as get a preview of life on a college campus through several overnight camps offered each summer.
  • Forensic Science Educator Training provides hands-on training and curriculum development for middle and high school instructors teaching science and criminal justice classes in such specialty areas as forensic chemistry, drug analysis, toxicology, serology, DNA, trace evidence, forensic pathology, anthropology, entomology, questioned documents, and digital evidence.
  • Southeast Texas Applied Forensic Science Facility offers training throughout the year for various groups, including teachers, law enforcement, and fire officials, on field aspects of forensic anthropology. Among the courses are advanced crime scene investigation, human skeletal search and recovery, pattern evidence, fire death investigations, forensic photography, and blood spatter.
  • Dr. Larry Hoover Distinguished Lecture Series is offered by the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas for professionals in the field to address innovative and practical ideas for law enforcement agencies on policing in the 21st Century.
  • Criminal Justice Career Fair is an biannual job fair featuring more than 100 employers in criminal justice, including federal, state, and local law enforcement, correctional agencies, probation, parole, victim services, crime labs, courts, legal services, the military and private corporations.
  • Victim Studies Career Fair is an annual job fair focusing on careers in victim services, including federal, state and local law enforcement and family protection agencies and non-profits focusing on domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, crime victims and human trafficking.
  • Saturdays @ Sam are events for prospective students that highlight programs and activities at the College of Criminal Justice, including our student organizations and professional institutes.
  • Bearkat Family Weekend provides student鈥檚 family and friends to see the many offerings available through the College and the University, including student organizations, professional institutes, faculty, study abroad programs, the internship program, the Friends of Criminal Justice, and the CJ Gift Shop.
