Prerequisites for Calculus I (Math 1420) and Elementary Functions (MATH 1410)

Calculus I (Math 1420) Placement Information

If you plan to take calculus you will need permission to enroll in this course.  In order to receive permission, you may need to take the following course that prepares you for calculus:

  • Math 1410 (Elementary Functions)

Students may register for MATH 1420 if at least one of the following criteria is satisfied:

  • A grade of "C" or better is earned in Math 1410, 
  • A score of 3 or better is earned on the AP Precalculus exam, 
  • A grade of "A" or "B" is earned in an AP Calculus course in high school, 
  • A score of at least 660 is earned on the new SAT Math section, or
  • A score of at least 28 is earned on the ACT Math section, or
  • A score of at least 276 is earned on the Next-Generation Advanced Algebra and Functions ACCUPLACER. 

Students for which MATH 1420 is required in their degree plan may register for MATH 1410 if at least one of the following criteria are satisfied:

  • A score of at least 540 is earned on the new SAT Math section,
  • A score of at least 21 is earned on the ACT Math section, or
  • A score of at least 263 is earned on the Next-Generation Advanced Algebra and Functions ACCUPLACER.

Students that do not meet the criteria for placement in MATH 1410 must first earn a grade of "C" or better in MATH 1314. If a student is not TSI complete in mathematics, then they must register for the corequisite course MATH N014.
