Bilingual Education
Prospective Students
Majoring in education; Early Childhood (EC) to sixth grade or Pre-K to third grade with a Bilingual certification prepares bilingual students to teach bilingual students in dual-language, ESL, and general education classrooms.
Students will take five courses fully in Spanish (BESL 4301, 4303, 4304, 4305, and TESL 3313), this serves to sharpen academic Spanish skills in preparation for the success in the classroom. Our intensive field experiences allow students to work directly with children in schools, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Program Highlights:
- Bilingual teacher candidates participate in a Yearlong Residency (YLR) with bilingual students to prepare them for Day 1 teaching upon entering their career.
- We encourage any bilingual student to participate in the to support and advocate for the bilingual community.

Q: What are the requirements for admission?
Beginning freshman student application process:
- Complete the $50, non-refundable Online Application for SHSU
- Submit your transcripts to SHSU
- Mail an official high school transcript to: 麻豆精品 Admissions Office Box 2418 Huntsville, TX 77341-2418
- Or ask your high school to send an electronic official transcript to Sam Houston State University (code: 003606).
- If transcripts are from a school outside of the U.S., the document must be translated and evaluated by a accredited service or . International high school transcript evaluations must include a GPA on a U.S. 4.00 scale.
- Please note that SHSU does not accept fax or emailed transcripts.
- Submit your test scores (optional):
- Send SAT scores to school code 6643 for SHSU.
- Send ACT scores to school code 4162 for SHSU.
